Solaris Bus & Coach sp. z o.o.

Solaris Bus & Coach sp. z o. o. is a leading European manufacturer of city and intercity buses, specializing in low- and zero-emission vehicles (electric, hydrogen, trolleybuses), supplied to hundreds of cities in Europe and around the world.

Quiet, smooth, efficient – the role of tires in everyday urban mobility

In a city bus, it’s the tire that sets the rhythm of the entire route. With every start, turn, and stop, it keeps the vehicle under control and directly impacts driving comfort and smoothness.

The right tire can make a real difference:

  • enhance passenger comfort, allowing conversations or a favorite podcast to be heard instead of background noise;
  • reduce braking distances, which play a critical role in the unpredictable conditions of city traffic;
  • reduce fuel consumption or extend the range of electric buses, resulting in fewer refueling or charging stops – and a more sustainable city;
  • increase tire mileage, keeping buses on the road longer, and maximize vehicle availability.

These small details come together to shape the everyday experience of city residents – especially those who use public transportation on a regular basis.

The difference goes further than it might seem

From a passenger’s perspective, the difference is felt first and foremost in how the vehicle moves. Pulling away from a stop feels calmer and more predictable. The vehicle moves smoothly, without sudden jolts over minor imperfections in the road, and standing passengers don’t have to constantly steady themselves. Inside, the space feels quieter – conversations flow naturally, and music is not interrupted by background noise. During rush hour, when every detail counts, a smoother ride makes the journey easier, leaving passengers less tired when they reach their stop.

There’s also the environmental side of the story. Using less fuel means fewer emissions in the city. For electric buses, this means longer distances on a single charge. The impact of one ride may seem small, but when multiplied across thousands of trips each day, it becomes a meaningful step toward reducing CO₂ emissions.

Better mobility starts where the vehicle meets the road

When we speak about responsible transport, the conversation often starts with what is easiest to see – batteries, engines, vehicle design. Yet the everyday experience of urban mobility is shaped elsewhere. Much closer to the road.

It is the tire that decides whether a bus moves through the city quietly, efficiently, and with confidence – across changing weather, traffic, and road conditions.

The unsung hero of city roads

We check the route number, step on board, take in the crowd around us, look for a free seat, and our thoughts quickly turn to what awaits us at our destination. Rarely do we pause to consider what truly shapes the quality of the journey in public transport: the tires – the only part of the vehicle in constant contact with the road. Yet this is where everything begins. The quiet inside the bus. The smooth pull-away from a stop. The sense of confidence on wet streets, in heavy traffic, or during sudden braking.

Even though we rarely notice them in everyday travel, tires play a key role in the comfort of urban transport. From the windy coastal routes of the Tri-City, to Lublin and its winter climbs in Czechów, to Poznań with its long, straight transit corridors – every city has its own pace and character. Yet a comfortable and safe journey always begins in the same place: where the vehicle meets the road.

Technology designed for comfort

In recent years, tire technology has evolved significantly. The new Continental Urban HA 5 NXT reflects that shift – designed specifically for the realities of city traffic: busy, unpredictable, and demanding.
Thanks to advanced tread compounds and enhanced construction features, the tire:

  • performs reliably in changing weather conditions,
  • delivers higher mileage,
  • reduces rolling resistance, helping lower fuel consumption or extend driving range,
  • cuts vehicle CO₂ emissions, supporting cities in meeting their environmental goals.

Technology that improves fleet performance while enhancing the passenger experience.

They’re talking about us: Together, we move forward. 30 years of Continental and the road to safe public transport

Three decades on Polish roads mean hundreds of thousands of kilometers of shared history. The everyday and groundbreaking ones. In 2026, Continental Tires Poland celebrates its anniversary and launches a year-long campaign under the slogan „Together, we move forward”.

– As one of Europe’s leading city bus manufacturers – and the largest in Poland – we pay close attention to the quality of every component used in our vehicles. Properly selected tires play a key role, directly impacting both safety and energy efficiency. Continental has been our trusted partner in this area for nearly 30 years

– says Mateusz Figaszewski, Solaris Bus & Coach.

The tire is the only part of a vehicle that remains in constant contact with the road. Even the most advanced bus technologies – from drivetrains to safety systems – can perform properly only when they rely on a stable, dependable point of contact with the surface. That’s why, in urban traffic, where buses are constantly starting, braking, and turning, tire quality is critical. It plays a decisive role in both safety and everyday comfort in public transport

– adds Bartłomiej Antoniak, Key Account Manager at Continental.

We invite you to explore our road through the guide,

following the route of Warsaw’s bus line 720. Why this one? It is the longest bus line in Poland. Covering nearly 40 kilometers, it celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025. Thus, making this unique moment a milestone to experience firsthand how tire technology performs across long, varied journeys. The route includes 47 bus stops, 23 of which are within the city. It begins at Wiatraczna 14 in Warsaw’s Praga-Południe district and ends in the village of Rzakta, in Otwock County. The entire ride takes just over an hour – offering a clear sense of the scale, rhythm, and everyday demands of public transport.
