Where every kilometer counts

In the world of trucking, every kilometer counts. It’s an industry where responsibility, reliability, and split-second decisions matter most.

To mark Continental’s 30th anniversary in Poland, we’re giving the floor to those who know the road best – professional drivers and experts who have been providing this industry with technologies that enhance safety and efficiency for years.

In the guide “Together we move forward” we show what everyday life in trucking looks like and how drivers’ experiences combine with the expertise of our Commercial Vehicle Tires (CVT) division. It’s a look at the transport fleet not only through the lens of products but, above all, through the lens of people and their work.

Discover the people behind long-distance trucking as they discuss technologies, fleet solutions, and the future of heavy-haul transport.

Some journeys are measured in kilometers. Others – in responsibility. Every day, professional drivers transport the cargo that keeps European business moving. Their experience sets the standard, and we at Continental have been listening to them for 30 years.

An incredible encounter on the steppe

Here is the story of Mr. Andrzej – an experienced professional driver who vividly remembers the days when drivers would hit the road with a paper map spread out on the steering wheel, and a CB radio was their only “navigator”. Today he is retired, but one thing has remained unchanged – his fondness for the Continental brand, which accompanied him for thousands of kilometers and countless stories from the road.

Another day on the road. A dirt road, packed with clay. The landscape hasn’t changed for several hours – the Kazakh steppe. In the distance, I see a vehicle standing on the “shoulder.” I slow down to reduce the clouds of dust trailing behind me. I can see it now – it’s a Kamaz, with three people and four dismantled wheels around it. I stop. In these conditions, it’s only natural.

It’s good to know local customs, so right after the “Islamic greeting”, I ask if they need water… and here begins an incredible encounter between history and technology. History, because during the conversation it turned out that the oldest of them had been in Zielona Góra… during World War II, he walked from Moscow to Berlin as a soldier drafted into the Red Army. Technology, because seeing that I had left my car running with the windows closed in the intense heat, they heard about air conditioning for the first time.

What fascinated them most, however, was the fact that on such a long journey, I wasn’t carrying a set of patches and inner tubes – something they’d asked me about right at the start of our meeting. When I told them I had Continental tubeless tires, I had to explain in detail “how it works, ” because they didn’t want to believe me. “It’s impossible for there to be no inner tube!”

30 YEARS OF RELIABILITY EVERY MILE OF THE WAY

It’s not just mileage – rolling resistance matters

In the transportation industry, every liter of fuel counts. People outside the industry don’t realize that low-rolling-resistance tires can significantly reduce operating costs.

Example (4×2 tractor-trailer):

  • routes: 70% regional / 30% highway
  • fuel price: 6,60 PLN/L
  • tire size: 315/70 R22.5

Conti Eco Gen 5 vs Conti Hybrid Gen 5:

  • fuel savings:  7,776 PLN per year
  • difference in running costs:  2,427 PLN
  • real benefit:  5,349 PLN per vehicle per year

Conclusion: For regional fleets, this is one of the fastest ways to optimize costs.

ContiConnect – monitoring that prevents problems

Modern fleets don’t wait for problems – they anticipate them. The ContiConnect system, launched by Continental, continuously monitors tire pressure and temperature, integrates with telematics systems, and allows you to respond before a minor issue turns into a costly breakdown.

The result? Less downtime, greater control, and real savings – up to 6 350 PLN per vehicle per year – while extending tire life and preserving retreadability.

Support that goes beyond the tire

In the transportation industry, every minute of downtime represents a real loss. That’s why today it’s not just the product that matters, but the entire support system that keeps vehicles on the road. Conti360° is a comprehensive approach to fleet tire management – from selecting tires tailored to specific applications, through monitoring and service, to rapid roadside assistance and managing the entire tire lifecycle.

Behind this solution lies scale: over 10,000 service orders, of which about 10% are emergency calls, over 100 Service Partners, over 100 trained technicians, and over 30 years of experience. Fleet managers and drivers alike confirm that on long-distance routes, what counts is a proven partner and the quality of the equipment, and Continental has built its position as a benchmark for the market over the past many years.

30 years of transformation – one thing remains constant: high-quality transportation

Transportation has undergone a massive transformation

It used to rely mainly on the driver’s experience and simple tools – today it is a world of data, systems, and real-time decisions. Routes, work pace, and expectations for fleets have changed. The approach to tires themselves has also changed – from a cost that was considered a fixed business expense, they have become part of an efficiency strategy.

Modern solutions allow for monitoring their condition, wear, and impact on fuel consumption and safety. Companies are increasingly analyzing data to optimize costs and extend tire life cycles. As a result, the tire ceases to be merely a consumable item and begins to play a significant role in managing the entire fleet.

Then and Now: how fleet management has changed in the Polish transportation industry

Fleet management 30 years ago:

  • limited systems,
  • lack of data for analysis,
  • decisions made „on a hunch”,
  • tires were treated merely as a necessary expense and part of the vehicle’s equipment

Fleet management today:

  • decisions based on data analysis,
  • real-time monitoring,
  • tires have become a key element of financial efficiency strategies,
  • total cost of ownership matters, not just fuel or maintenance,
  • technology is changing the roads, but the values remain the same: safety, responsibility, and partnership.

The EU supply chain route from eastern Poland to the German border spans over 800
kilometers and takes nearly 9 hours to drive. In practice, this means at least
a day and a half of work for the driver, as well as a journey through Poland’s most
important logistics hubs – with mandatory breaks, stop planning, and full responsibility
for the cargo.
